In Ayurveda, the condition of hair is discussed within a broader understanding of Kesha, Dosha, Dhatu, Agni, Srotas and tissue nourishment. Among the classical conditions associated with hair loss, Khalitya occupies an important position. Classical Ayurvedic descriptions provide valuable observations regarding the causes, manifestations and therapeutic principles associated with the loss of hair.
This book, “Khalitya: Ayurveda & Hair Health,” has been conceived with the intention of bringing these two perspectives together in a systematic and clinically meaningful manner.
The book begins with the Ayurvedic understanding of Kesha and Khalitya, including their Nirukti, Vyutpatti, Paribhasha, Lakshana and classical descriptions. It then explores the anatomy and physiology of the hair and hair follicle from a contemporary perspective and relates these concepts, wherever appropriate, to Ayurvedic principles.
