A tumour, by definition (Shafer) is simply a swelling of the tissue. Normally, cells grow and divide to form new cells as body needs them and sometimes old cells remain and form a mass which is called a tumour. Benign tumors generally have a slower growth rate and the cells are usually more differentiated. Benign tumors will not metastasize or locally invade tissues
