Laboratory Manual Book of Pharmaceutical Analysis

This laboratory manual has been written to accompany the Analysis I practical course and to give students a single, consistent reference for the experiments they will perform during the semester. It brings together four related areas of pharmaceutical analytical chemistry: limit tests for common impurities, the preparation and standardisation of volumetric solutions, the assay of pharmacopoeial compounds, and the determination of end points by electro-analytical methods (conductometry and potentiometry).

Each of the nineteen experiments follows the same structure — Aim, Apparatus required, Chemicals required, Principle, Procedure, Observation table or inference, Calculation where relevant, Discussion, and Result — so that students become familiar with the logic of an analytical procedure rather than simply following a recipe. Original schematic line drawings of the common glassware and instruments are provided at the front of the manual as a quick visual reference.
